GARDEN DESIGN SERVICES
OFFERED BY LAURENSON LANDSCAPE DESIGN (Note: all
figures are exclusive of GST, unless otherwise stated) We work in both the commercial and residential sectors throughout INITIAL CONSULTATION Begin the
transformation of your garden by scheduling an Initial Consultation with
Laurenson Landscape Design. An Initial Consultation gives you a chance to: ·
Meet
with us in your garden ·
Discuss
your frustrations and your desires for your outdoor living space ·
Learn
about potential problems and possible solutions We will then
summarise the brief taken and send you a written report, with suggestions for
transforming your garden. This will include an outline of the design process
and a quote for further garden design services, should it be appropriate. An Initial
Consultation within the EXTENDED CONSULTANCY You want some advice
on what to plant where, but don’t want a full garden design service? Then
schedule an Extended Consultancy with Laurenson Landscape Design. This
service includes: ·
Meeting
with you in your garden ·
Discussing
your frustrations and your desires for your outdoor living space ·
Highlighting
potential problems and possible solutions ·
Sending
you a written report with suggestions for transforming your garden ·
Sending
you a list of plant suggestions for various spaces in the garden. This list
will include both botanical and common names of plants, their mature size,
suggested spacing, and some general comments about special features and/or
maintenance requirements. An Extended
Consultancy within the STAGE This is where you
start to see how your garden could be transformed into the garden of your
dreams. But before we can draw up plans for you, we need to take accurate
measurements of the property, so there will be no surprises when we come to
the construction phase. Site Survey The first step of
the design process is therefore the site survey. This involves our returning
to the site and includes: ·
Recording
positions of existing features and any plants to be retained ·
Recording
levels to determine gradients and height variations ·
Assessing
neighbouring properties for screening, shading, etc ·
Taking
photographs for recall purposes ·
Searching
Council files for relevant site information ·
Drawing
a base plan with the information gathered as a starting point in the design
process We will generally
ask you to supply us with copies of house and site plans (showing the
position of the house in relation to the boundaries) before proceeding with
this step. Conceptual Design We will then prepare
and present to you a rendered Concept Plan for the garden, showing you our
vision for your new garden. This will help to clarify your thoughts and
ideas. It is important that you are happy with the Conceptual Design before
we proceed to the working drawings. A Concept Plan: ·
Is
a plan view of our proposals, drawn to scale ·
May
include a perspective sketch and/or elevation to better illustrate these
ideas ·
Will
give a generalized idea of the design intent rather than specific details ·
Is
not intended to be used for the purposes of obtaining quotes or consents, or
for instructing contractors ·
May
be all that you require, if you wish to install the garden yourselves, and
you have a good knowledge of plants The Site Survey and
Conceptual Design for a suburban garden usually fall in the range of
$1500-$3500. This figure is dependent upon the scale of the project. Begin the process of transforming your garden into the
garden of your dreams. A Conceptual Design
may be all that you require, especially if you are planning to build the
garden yourselves and have a good plant knowledge. However, if you require
consents or would like to engage a contractor to build your garden, you will
probably need some form of documentation and working drawings. Our
project was always going to be a work in progress - we have planted it
ourselves, and are continuing to develop the site as finance allows - however
Robyn was able to support us in this process and encouraged me to have the
confidence to work with my ideas and create my own garden! Lyn McDonnell, Hillsborough, STAGE TWO – DOCUMENTATION The Documentation
and Working Drawings will become a valuable communication tool, assisting you
in communicating your landscaping ideas clearly to landscape gardening
contractors, builders, and local authorities. This work may include: ·
Drawing up a Site
Plan, including dimensions and site coverage percentages ·
Drawing dimensioned
elevations and cross-sections ·
Obtaining
neighbours’ signatures ·
Writing a letter of
‘Assessment of Effects’ ·
Lodging a Resource
Consent ·
Engaging an
engineer to design all details for items requiring Building Consent ·
Finalizing details
such as paving type, fence styles, etc ·
Preparing a Scope
of Works ·
Preparing Working
Drawings ·
Drawing up a
Drainage Plans ·
Lodging a Building
Consent ·
Drawing up a
Planting Plan ·
Drawing up a
Lighting Plan ·
Having an
Irrigation Plan prepared I was
very impressed with Robyn’s detailed drawings, which gave a very clear vision
of the final result. Her recommendation on what plants are best suited
to the conditions has been a great help. Marilyn
Jones, We can give you a
fixed price for the Documentation and Working Drawings once the Concept has been
finalised. However, preparation of these documents will usually fall in the
range of $1000-$4000 for a suburban garden when no consents are required. STAGE THREE – TENDER/QUOTING Once the design and
drawing phases of the project have been completed, we are able to assist with
getting prices from reputable landscape gardening contractors for having the
landscaping work undertaken. This takes the hassle out of organizing the
project and involves: ·
Arranging for
contractors to produce quotes for landscape work ·
Meeting contractors
on site to go over the project, presenting plans and Scope of Works for
costing ·
Checking quotes for
completeness ·
Presenting quotes
to the client For this service we
charge for our time at our current hourly rate, and for costs incurred. STAGE FOUR – PROJECT OBSERVATION We are also able to
undertake project observation if required. This involves our visiting the
site once or twice a week during the landscape construction phase of the
project, and being available on call to assist with design advice for minor changes. Selecting this
option helps to ensure the integrity of the design is maintained. We can give you a
fixed price for Project Observation once the scope of the project has been
finalised. You may, of course,
elect to supervise construction of the garden yourselves, in which case we
are available to answer queries and visit the site at our hourly rate, as and
when required. We can also assist with the supply of plants and soil product. In
hindsight I would recommend using Robyn to project manage - this would
have saved time and money, and avoided the frustration of having to redo
features that did not quite get built as on plan! Lyn
McDonnell & Hans Buwalda, Hillsborough, Some local councils
require stormwater mitigation for any development on certain sites. The aim
of this is to keep stormwater flow close to the flow that would
have occurred on the property prior to development, so as not to overload the
stormwater system. Excess run-off from urban development is contributing
significantly to stream erosion and flooding in our cities, and to the
quality of our waterways and coastal environments. Mitigation can be in
the form of rain water tanks, detention tanks, rain gardens, pervious paving
and roof gardens. We are developing an
expertise in this area. There are many creative ways of controlling
stormwater on your property, principally by using rain and roof gardens,
before it enters the stormwater system. Our philosophy is that a garden
should be aesthetically pleasing as well as good for the environment. LANDSCAPE PLANS FOR RESOURCE CONSENT Resource Consent
applications frequently require Landscape Plans as part of the submission. We
are experienced in preparing these plans, for which we can provide a fixed
price once we know the scope of the work. ONGOING CONSULTATION Should
you not require a full design service, we can provide ongoing consultation at
our hourly rate of $110. Work outside
Auckland is charged at our daily rate of $550 plus expenses. LANDSCAPE GARDENING PARTNERS It is important to
us that your garden is installed and managed professionally, so that the end
result is a garden you can enjoy for years to come. With this in mind, we choose
to work with the following landscaping companies.
